Anne Hungerford born 1468 died 1506 married to Walter Langley and Henry Brugge/Brydges. She was connected to Sir John Hungerford of Down Ampney born 1460 died 1524 and Margaret Blount. This is obviously wrong as the ages make it an impossibility - so until we can find her correct place she has no parents connected to her.

I wonder if we can solve the mystery by following the Brugge/Brydges or the Langley families? I do have in a book I possess which mainly covers the Hungerfords, reference to Brugge. Elizabeth Brugge married Sir John Baskerville. They appear to have connections with the Devereaux. I see there is also mention of Penn-Brugge. Not that this sheds much light at this point!

I see that the Brugge family are included in Geni so perhaps we can find this Henry Brugge who married an Anne Hungerford?

OMG there are no parents quoted for Anne Hungerford Brugge!

Death:

Going by her husband's date of birth, it might be that Anne was born 1485 ish? or even later.

I reckon it is Anne Hungerford born 1486 and the original date of birth was mistyped.

Thanks Pamela, but that was the query. Her parents were either infants or not yet born! when that Anne was born!

However, I have now traced the correct Anne Hungerford and she is completely different and married a Joos Lee. I am descended from the Hungerfords and my name is also Ann, but I wish they had been a little more original with their first names!

This is what I was searching for ...

Sorry was of no help. I also am a decendent of the Hungerfords of Glouchestershire, England and you are right. It seem that all through history Anne was a very popular name and were alot of first names. It can make tracing the correct one difficult.

Ann be careful about that Joos Lee - He tends to show up in Virginia with the rest of the Lee family he is NOT related to. :)

Oh thanks for the tip Erica. Speaking from the memory of a gal to be 80 this year, I seem to recall that this branch went to Holland and then on to America. Can you give me a few extra clues what to sort out there please?

Ann I'm hoping the family is correct at the moment but certainly this Anne needs better documentation :

Anne Hungerford

Nothing wrong with your memory! They are indeed Pilgrims to Leiden & on to America. Were they Puritans / dissenters?

Well I get these bees in my bonnet from time to time Erica and follow a branch of the family until my head is in a whirl! Of course, all devout Catholics were persecuted and taxed to extreme during history, driving them out of Britain to seek a home where they could follow their religion safely.

Terrible persecution in those days and I shudder to hear what an evil many times great grandfather, Longshanks, was. I hate to think I may have his evil blood in my veins! :)

Ann I share your fear about Longshanks evil blood in my veins. I guess to counter that we had a lot of good people to dilute all that evil. Then of course the more you dig the more evil you find. I guess we are a mixture of both and it is still our job to choose what we become. Thank Goodness!!!

Myrna, How true what you say dear cousin. I have had to consult an anxiety therapist, who fortunately cured me of my problems. She told me what a strong person I was and I could so easily have been a cruel person, but I was strong enough to overcome this trait in my make up. I guess, we have the choice and we do make our own course in this life.

The first post in this thread stated:

"Anne Hungerford born 1468 died 1506 married to Walter Langley and Henry Brugge/Brydges. She was connected to Sir John Hungerford of Down Ampney born 1460 died 1524 and Margaret Blount. This is obviously wrong as the ages make it an impossibility - so until we can find her correct place she has no parents connected to her."

Actually, Anne Hungerford, wife of Walter Langley was the daughter of Sir Thomas Hungerford of Down Ampney, Gloucestershire (died 1494) and Christina Hall.
There is another separate and distinct lady named Margery Hungerford, who was the daughter of Sir John Hungerford of Down Ampney, Gloucestershire (died 1524, son of Sir Thomas) and Margaret Blount. This Margery married first, Nicholas Bedford of Newbury who died by 1498 and secondly to Henry Brydges (or Bruges), Esq. of Newbury who died in 1538/9.

Margery (Hungerford) Bedford Brydges was born circa 1478 most likely in Down Ampney, Gloucestershire and married her first husband sometime around 1494. She would have two sons (John and Robert) by Nicholas Bedford of Newbury before Nicholas died around 1498. Sometime between 1498 and 1500, Margery married her second husband, Henry Brydges, Esq. of Newbury. Margery (Hungerford) Bedford Brydges was still living in 1538 when Henry Brydges, Esq. wrote his will.

Margery's son by Henry, Sir Richard Brydges, is mentioned in the will of Margery's brother; Sir Anthony Hungerford of Down Ampney, Gloucestershire (died 1558/9). The son of Sir Richard Brydges is specifically named as a "godson" of Sir Anthony Hungerford. Thus indicating a close familial kinship as Sir Richard Brydges was undoubtedly the nephew of Sir Anthony, whereby Sir Richard's son, Anthony Brydges, was named after his godfather / great uncle, Sir Anthony Hungerford, and bequeathed money in Sir Anthony’s will.

Now, I hope Geni has these two women straight; that being Anne Hungerford, wife of Walter Langley, who was a completely separate and different lady from, Margery (Hungerford) Bedford Brydges.
