Met his wife Evelyn Dally in Wolverhampton. He was taken over to England by his father Samuel Birch to study engineering and set upin a boarding house, but he disliked the landlords and after an altercation for some meaness, he packed up andleft on a whim. He evidently did not know where to go, and while standing on thepavement considering that, he asked a young man possibly Raymond, where he could take up lodgings, and Raymond said his father had died and hismother took in lodgers to get income as the house was large, and he sould come along with him to see her. Which Richard did, and that was where he met his future wife Evelyn Birch who was 15 at the time, and who was sister to Raymond who Richard met on the pavement, one of 2 brothers evidently. Her father had died when she was 9 years old. It was evidently love at first sight.
