I've had a number of people submit a merge to me for a particular person and I agree that it should be merged. But the only option I have is "they'renot the same person" or "I'll decide later. How can I approve the merge? Everyone seems to be held up on this because of my lack of an option to do this.

If both profiles are public and you manage or collaborate with the manager of one, you can merge them.

If one profile is private - and you're the manager - the best option is to make it public and then merge. If you are not the manager and not in the family group of the manager, contact the manager to make it public so it can be merged.

If you want to email me on Geni with the URL (Internet address) of the proposed merge, I'll take a look and see if I can advise you more specifically. Usually it's an issue of one being private or the person doing the merge not collaborating with the manager of the other profile.

Are you a Basic User? It is possible this has something to do with what a Pro can do vs. what a Basic User can do. Clearly, if you are a Pro, this is not the case, but it looked like you might be Basic.

The messages you get indicates that private profiles or even a user profile is involved, and secondly you can only send a request once.

You can however see if the request is listed here and cancel it before re-requesting

Being Pro does not help to get private profiles merged. Approval from both sides or family group access is needed.

the url is http://www.geni.com/merge/compare/6000000018893225499?return=merge_...

everyone who has any say on the matter has already approved the merger. I seem to be the only one unable to approve it. Yes I'm a basic user but I'd figure that if everyone okays it I should be able to add my voice to oking it from my side if requested.

the request wasn't listed at that link you sent me to. as mentioned the request came from others. I just seem unable to approve it despite being clearly noted as the manager of one of the profiles.

Clicking on Link, I see the exact choices you mentioned. Also see -- You are the Manager of one of the Profiles; the other is a claimed Profile.

Question (possibly relevant) -- at the top of the claimed Profile - what relationship does it say it is to you? (ie. trying to determine if Geni is counting it as a relative of yours).

I can find a path that goes through 19 relatives to link me to the other profile holder

OK - If this is how Geni sees you as related, then you are NOT in each other's Max Extended Family (out to 4th cousin, back to 3rd greatgrandparent), at least as Geni sees things.

You go up to a grandmother and then over to an uncle (her brother), and then down (to a cousin) and then over to someone connected by marriage, etc.
