I would like to find out more about Rita Garcia, a citizen of Manila during the Bataan Death March/Japanese occupation (WW2). Her brother is/was Pedro Garcia. She has at least 2 younger sisters. She was well educated and comes from a prominent Filipino family. Her father was a Manila businessman and soldier who died fighting the Japanese in 1941. She is also a niece of Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the Philippines. It seems apparent by all accounts the her family's beliefs were at odds with those of her uncle, who encouraged cooperation with the occupying Japanese forces. She graduated college in the summer of 1941, not long before the Japanese occupation. Rita, along with her family, were instrumental in helping Major Damon "Rocky" Gause escape Japanese forces in the Philippines to freedom in Australia. She is a major and pivotal figure in his war journal, published by Hyperion in 1999, but is hardly given proper credit for her brave actions.
