The family story is that she died in Kristiania and Thore's sister Mari (b1849) accompanied Thore and his three children to America. This story matches what I found on the Digitalarkivet.

But I have never found her death record in Oslo.

A death record for Gunhild was found in Skedsmo, 1862-1878 Parish Register, Deaths and Burials, 1870, page 279, line 39.
