Hey guys, I just downloaded my ancestry gedcom file and its over 200 megs, my blood relatives one is 101 megs, is there any way to decrease the size of these downloads or download fewer ancestors so that I can more easily transport the files?

I see that you've added a solution for this. Thanks a lot.

Not sure you realized - they have also changed their policy - Maximum Gedcom Download is 10 (ten) times the number of profiles you have added.

So - fine for you, definitely not fine for folks who have not added profiles, even if they may have contributed documents, photos, and/or edited profiles.

Also - is there any way to choose which profiles are in the Gedcom? Or doesn't that matter to you?

Cynically, -- we have seen to many who have joined Geni just to snap a GEDCOM with the work done by others, and based on that it is OK with such a limitation.
I have found my own family on a lot of web pages where the source obviously is Geni and those who grabbed and uploaded it did not ask if it was OK.

Technically, if you really are interested in getting a copy you should just do as most should do anyhow: Just ask the major contributors to that tree if they could make a GEDCOM for you.
