OK, I'm officially clueless. So I'm asking.

How can I get a GEDCOM file out of Geni that contains:

- Me
- My wife
- Our closest family
- Not more than 250 people?

Of course the point is to export something that's usable on MyHeritage without their more expensive forms of membership. But my "default" export on Geni contains 100.000 people, but not my wife's parents.

Advice appreciated..... if I have to export into a local program and reexport from there, I'll do it. But it seems like something one should just be able to do.

Sigh.

I would also take as an alternative - I know we can edit the gedcom file - but do not know how to chop it down to size - ie what does one delete - from where to where or etc - to delete folks/families/etc, but still have a usable gedcom. Can anyone tell how to do this correctly, or direct to a place I could read up on how to do it.

Oh - also meant to ask - within profile, how / what do we delete to remove links/references to documents from the gedcom without harming the functionality of the gedcom for the rest of the info; ditto for photos; ditto for Timeline events.

Which 250 people? It might be easiest to take all 100,000 and trim it down to the parts of the tree you want using your desktop software of choice. Or piece it together with a combination of ancestor and descendent gedcom exports

"Trim it down" is certainly an option... do you know of any software that's good at trimming trees? Going from 100.000 to 250 by deleting one profile at a time doesn't scale terribly well.
