I'm locking down Chucky & his immediate family descendants as a temporary precaution in case merge-ins on historical profiles get hectic while the Geni and the My Heritage families start to cross pollinate.
The long-term benefits of resource and people access of this joining of the two companies is FANTASTIC, so the locking down is just an attempt to set a fixed reference point over the transition period.

The Charlemagne family template is here: http://www.geni.com/projects/Charlemagne-Emperor-of-the-West
I've logged a record of the locked profiles on this project: http://www.geni.com/projects/Locked-profiles/109

If anybody needs to do work on these while they're locked, just drop me a note to unlock them for you. The idea is not to exclude people; just to protect the data.

Isn't it better that everyone have the option to get rid of the duplicates. Locking the profiles are only creating a deadlock.

Does it mean that curators can't merge into them, Bjorn?

Even curators stay away from locked profiles because they often are a result of being territorial.

Sharon you can solve this by locking the "data fields" and the "about" only. That way anyone can merge but the overview and data stays the same. Data conflicts resolve to the MP value. The only issue is if someone genuinely wishes a change - in which case they can message or raise a discussion.

Okay, good idea Erica Howton just locking the data fields takes much more time - so will be a couple of days before I get to it.

Private User - the irony is that I've taken SO much flak from other Curators for never locking them before, that I never expected it to be other Curators who moaned when I did?? If you just can't win, you may as well please yourself in that case - at least then you know somebody is happy!

Any Curator who has the time to lock the fields please go ahead and do it.

I only lock field if they are well documented and we have people making changes anyhow.

If this isn't well-documented, then I give up! http://www.geni.com/projects/Charlemagne-Emperor-of-the-West
