I commissioned Sarka Kocarikova
of czechcensus@yahoo.com • http://www.CzechFamilyTree.com to obtain these census returns
1857 Kyjov Sonnenschein Abraham with his wife Veronika and 7 of their children
1869 Kyjov #139 Sonnenschein Moritz with his wife Sofie and their 2 children
She did so promptly and with a transcription and useful accompanying notes. This isn't a cheap service but it is a quality one. I have immediately established tha the family came from Ribek (now Ribky in Nitra County Slovakia about 40km SE of Kyjov/Gaya).
Sara can also transcribe Kurrent legal documents (about Sonnenscheins in Gaya circa 1860) of which my German born father and uncle could only make out a couple of words. This was much better value than other (scarce) professionals we found.
If I visit the area, I may well seek her personal assistance. Thanks Sarka!
That's great to know about. Are you a member of the JewishGen AustriaCzech SIG? If so, maybe you can post a message to the list to let everyone know. or start a discussion at http://www.geni.com/projects/Jewish-Communities-in-Bohemia-and-Mora... so everyone there will know about this resource. Thanks, Randy
You probably already do this, but I have found it very useful to download a "Kurrent" handwriting font, and them compile a list of the family and first names for the very inter related Gaya families.
It has helped me to decipher many names especially in the very early records which have extremely poor hand writing.
Also this link is useful to find what people died from http://www.antiquusmorbus.com/German/GermanL.htm
kind regards,
