My great grandfather Lauritz Brandt made a family tree in which he named the farm "Brandwaldsberg".
I find it interesting that there is such clear references to the german words Wald = Forrest and Berg = Mountain.
I am definitely open to the possibility that the name Brandt is older then the name of the farm. That is, the farm could have been named after the family.
I have no sources to prove it, still, i suspect a Hanseatic origin for this family.
It would be interesting to hear your opinion on this theory :)
Actually, I've come across a source allegedly written by Peder Olsen Brandt in 1818. He names his parents Ole Johnsen Sørhuus and Goro Olsdatter Strømmen.
Together with this source: http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/nn-no/ft/person/pf01058248002621 , it seems accurate.
In the source I've seen it also states that Sørhuus died in 1810 (which fits with the date in the digital archives) and that Strømmen died in 1794. This makes her harder to find, but I might have found something. Will add a picture in the sources on her profile. Let me hear what you think about it.
