I'm not sure what you are asking, Vicky.
Is there a problem / concern you have with the information on Geni at the moment? (e.g.: look at http://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000010188012469 )
The children of Lucy Hanks Sparrow, and Henry Hanks Sparrow, are still half Hanks, in their genealogy. So their descendents also belong in the Hanks family tree, as descendents Are ther any living descentents, therefore, to connect to the family tree? We seem to add all the other chilldren of all the brothers and sisters, in the Hanks tree, and omit all her children, but Nancy.
By the way, Vicky Reany Paulson ... When will your book be available, through whom, and what is the title?
If you look at the link in my previous comment (of 10/19), I see eight children of Lucy & Henry shown ... as well as their older half-sisters Nancy & Sarah. Are there others?
There are also grandchildren of Henry connected: the children of Mary Ann, Elizabeth, and Jane Sparrow. There may be others, but no one has identified or added them as of this moment.
There is a considerable amount of proof that the Shipley theory is wrong. The five Shipley women, who are listed as married to Joseph Hanks, Richard Berry, Thomas Sparrow, Capt. Abraham Lincoln, and Mitchell, were all marriages that by documentation, are proven incorrect. Joseph Hanks was married to Ann Lee, daughter of William Lee, Richard Berry was married to Rachael Head, sister of Jesse Head, Thomas Sparrow was married to Elizabeth Hanks, who was the daughter of Joseph Hanks, Capt. Abraham Lincoln was married to Bathsheba Herring, and she outlived him, so there was no second marriage. Caroline Hanks Hitchcock used these marriages, so she could be related to both the Hanks and Lincoln families. There also was no James Hanks in this family tree. Therefore, there was no Lucy Shipley, to marry a James Hanks. If you look at this mess, you will also see Joseph and Capt. Abraham Lincoln, and Richard Berry, are a generation older than the other men listed, so you have two sisters marrying a father, and a daughter! If you are a descendant of Polly Sparrow, you are then a Sparrow and Hanks descendant, and still would be related to Nancy Hanks Lincoln, as Polly Sparrow would be her half sister. There simply are no Shipleys in the Hanks or Lincoln family trees. With documentation, this can be proven, without any doubt. Seeing how old this chain is, the book, Abraham Lincoln's Hanks Family Genealogy, has been available now, for 7 months, and this would be your REAL family tree.
The book that Vicky Paulson wrote (and mentions in her note on July 28) provides documented evidence. When I looked a few days ago, it was available through Amazon.
Most of the previous discussions about the Hanks Family have started with Nancy Lincoln (Hanks), as referenced at the end of Lucy's "About" text (discussion link: http://www.geni.com/discussions/83182?msg=817968).
There is plenty of evidence that Lucy was a Hanks! For one thing, Barton interviewed living relatives, thank God, and all confirmed she was the daughter of Joseph and Ann Lee Hanks, the list including Joseph and Polly Young Hanks, her brother and sister in law, William and Elizabeth Hall Hanks, another brother and sister in law, Sarah bush Johnston Lincoln, Dennis and Sarah Johnston Hanks. All the living Sparrow children, and Nancy Hanks listed as her child, in their family Bible. Her indictment, was for Lucy Hanks, and no, this was not a widow. One, there was no James Hanks in this family, and widows are served different papers, for proof of why their children should not be bound out, after a spousal death. Very legally different papers. A marriage license required a witness, by law. That's who's name is on her marriage license. We still have to have a witness on marriage licenses! Doesn't matter what our age is. Even Lincoln stated to Herndon, his law partner, his mother was the bastard child of Lucy Hanks. Dennis Hanks was the bastard child, or baseborn, often a term used in that era, of her sister Nancy Hanks Hall. There is plenty to identify her as a Hanks. If there were a James Hanks, you would find a Will and Probate record, as that was also the law. Guess what, there's no such thing. And why would Lincoln lie about such a thing? In all my records, there are no James Hanks in this direct line. There was one in William Hanks line, Joseph's brother, and that's it.
If you have more on the Sparrow children, I think it would be important to include them here, as they are also Hanks descendants, just as I am. I know tow were ministers, and that Lucy brought up a fine family of children with Henry Sparrow. Perhaps some recorded their interview with Barton. Please share what you have, as I would find it as part of the family descendants!
I know two of her sons were ministers, I would suspect Baptist. I am writing a second book, and I think it would be wonderful to include the Sparrow descendants, as they are also hanks descendants. They always seem to be left out of the loop, because of the controversy of Nancy hanks Lincoln's origin. I strongly feel they should also be included!
So I've been looking around for more information on Polly Sparrow and Ben Whitehouse, but there just isn't that much to be found. Here's what I have right now:
Benjamin Whitehouse was born supposedly around 1788 in Fauquier county, Virginia to James Whitehouse and Sarah. However, James and Sarah traveled to Kentucky in 1783, and with them are listed three children, one of them apparently Benjamin, so he was probably born earlier, or he was born after his parents journey into Kentucky. They settled on Scrubgrass Creek, where he grew up with fifteen other siblings (the eldest, Joseph, would become a private of the Lewis and Clarke expedition). Benjamin married Polly Sparrow on the 9th of July, 1808, with James Whitehouse and Henry Sparrow serving as bondsmen. They would go on to have fourteen children. Polly Sparrow died on the fourth of September, 1861, and Benjamin died four years later on the fourth of October, 1865. They were buried near the house James Whitehouse had built on Scrubgrass Creek. He and Polly Sparrow were two of the original settlers of Boyle County, Virginia.
I haven't been able to find very much information on their children, but I'm going to keep looking.
