Both James Nye and his wife Ann McDonnell were convicts

From the NSW Convicts applications to marry records, they applied multiple times before being given permission to marry.

Marriage transcript lists their conjugal status as Widow & widower.

Ann died 7JUL1873 and was buried in St Patricks Catholic Cemetery, Sutton Forest.
A NSW death certificate exists for an Ann Wye who died 7JUL1873 in Sutton Forest, spouse listed as James Wye, informant 'George Sewell, son in law, sutton forest'.

James died 16AUG1874 and was buried in All Saints Anglican Cemetery, Sutton Forest.
A NSW death certificate exists for a James Wye who died 16AUG1874 in Sutton Forest, spouse listed as Mary McDonald, informant 'George Sewell, son in law, sutton forest'.

No persons with the surname Wye buried in either Sutton Forest cemetery.

I do not have any record of the earlier marriage partners or how George Sewell was actually, if at all, related.

That would be the correct death cert for Ann Nye --- Transcription of handwritten documents (especially if done by computer) gives some rather funny results. We need to find a daughter of James and Ann Nye who then went on to marry George Sewell. It is possible that Ann was also known as Mary Ann?????

I know that someone has done the Sewell research - I'll have to do a bot of remembering who! I think that the link was either Mary Anne Nye or was Amirah.... Hmm memory is no that good. I can find out but I'll need a few days. Best contact me by email: sandramoschella@me.com if you don't hear from me soon.
Regards,
Sandra
Ps regarding John Irwin - on the birth certifictae for Charles Henry Irwin, Margaret reports that her husband (in 1873) was age 40 and was born in Armagh. She states that she was born in Down.

I've just searched on ancestry.com and found your Edmund Nye. I don't know if they are related but they did all come from Sussex so I suppose it is possible. Your Edmund appears to have been in court in 1818, but the conviction which resulted in a death sentence commuted to transportation was in 1829. James (Jnr and Snr) were both sent off in 1818 so they are of compatable ages.
I also noticed a baptism of an Edmund Nye in 1830 with a father George --- could George be a brother , naming his new son after the "loss" of his brother Edmund?
There is also Nye families in Kent --- apparently involved in making Tunbridge ware (which I think is beautiful) and apparently their Edmund's pieces are noteworthy.
So several lines for you to delve into -- isn't genealogy fun! Hope this gives you some ideas. Glynne

I'm rather puzzled as to where you sit in the Nye family lines. The Edmund Nye who married Catherine Cummings --- I can only find one birth to them and that is a Catherine J Nye in 1841.
Working back from Ivy Tiyce --- her mother Mary Ann b1888 to Henry C and Ellen Nye appears to be on line down from James Nye (the convict mentioned in first message of this discussion)
Ivy married HECTOR J Estreih (I suppose he could have been better known as Herbert?) His father George b1861 was son of John Oestreich and Rosanna M Nye. Rosanna b1945 appears to be daughter of Henry E and Catherine Nye who also had a son Henry E b1843
I hope I've written this all down correctly --- I've just done a quick digging around NSW BDM and two trees on ancestry, com
It looks like you have a puzzle here to sort out. My e-mail address is glynne_jones@yahoo.co.uk if you think I can give any more assistance. I am not directly related to the Nye's --- they ccome in on my mother's adoptive family lines.

Hi Donald, I just looked at my ancestry.com file and found that I'd made up a special tree for Heather (above) so if you send me some details via my e-mail address (see above) I might be able to give you what I managed to find out.
