The First 50 Years Project http://www.e-family.co.za/ffy/index.htm is an invaluable resource.

It is a project which aims to transcribe and make available copies of records relating to individuals who lived at the Cape during the first decades of the settlement after 1652.

Please note Delia Robertson does not approve of the pages from The First Fifty Years Project being added to Geni as documents. Please add a link to the relevant page rather than the URL as a source (which automatically creates a document of that link and adds it to your documents.

Please could you check your document pages to see if you have added the FFYP pages as a document to a profile and replace it with a link to the relevant page at the webpage.

Many thanks!!

In order to add the URL as a source when editing a profile use the third tab ("Create a New Document") which is really just a text editor, and paste the link into that.

Or after clicking "add a document"

The second Tab at the top is "Post A New Link" (Add a document from the internet)

Donovan - the point is that Delia of First Fifty Years Project does not want us to load her pages as documents. I like the convenience of linking the URL as a source for information inside the profile, rather than just referring to it in the overview/about section. Creating a new doc. with the link in it is one way of doing this, but it isn't a live link. Not as satisfactory I know. Just a way around it.

I did it the way I suggested for one of Delia's documents the way I have suggested and it seems to work quite well... see

I am talking very specifically about the First Fifty Years Project pages. To illustrate I will add a url link to a FFYP page and you will see that a document is loaded of that page - you have the option to visit the actual URL when you view the document, but having that doc of her page on Geni is what she is not happy about.

See http://www.geni.com/documents/view/4116890475160071588?doc_id=60000...

Let me know when you have had a look so that I can delete it!

Aaah OK I get it now... Geni actually makes a PNG file of the web page and saves it here as a photo... So if the web page is updated the new information will not automatically update here on Geni...

Sorry for being slow...

Not a Problem Donovan - just something to bear in mind with the First 50 Years Project!

It seems that even though Delia has added a copyright warning on the pages of the First Fifty Years Project people are still adding pages as a document to profiles instead of as a link in the "About" section. Please re-read the previous entries in this discussion for direction on how to go about referencing the FFYP.

I just got a message to myself again from another user. It is the 3rd one. Delia asks the people in mass to take it off and then they say - Sorry Judith I don't know what you are talking about. I don't use that project". Why because Judi is the MP and she and 20 others are on that profile and poor old Judi gets the letters.
Ag tog!!!!!! Another day, more problems.
