Will a closed Account be charged for Pro??

A relative of mine relative apparently recently decided to try Geni's Pro Trial - I saw announcement that she had "upgraded to a 1-Year Geni Pro account". It is still less than two weeks after she did so, and she has now Closed her Account. She is still listed/shown as Pro, but without a claimed Profile. I have been added as Manager of all the Profiles she added (except the one claimed one), and she is shown as Primary Manager of them.

I have not managed to get answer from her as to whether she Edited her Pro Settings - she did respond to say she closed the account because she does not feel like paying the yearly fee. I am extremely upset that Geni's Ads for Pro scared a relative of mine off. And am worrying that Geni may go ahead and charge her anyway. Is this more likely to happen if I get her to re-accept an invitation, or just leave the account closed till the Trial Time is over, or ???

Customer Service - Do you know the answer? If not, could you tag here whoever might know.

Private User Please see the private message sent to you so we can confirm your relative cancelled her trial subscription.

Please know that closing a Geni account is different from cancelling a subscription, there is a highlighted note in the 'Close Account' section that would state "Are you looking to cancel your Pro account or trial? You can edit your Pro settings and remain a Geni user."

Any Geni user can cancel their trial subscription during the 14 day free trial period to avoid being charged.

(another instance where the ability to edit comments would be nice. Am trying again, hopefully fixed below (now as one very long one))

Customer Service – I have sent you a PM with the URL of my relative’s profile.

re: "there is a highlighted note in the 'Close Account' section that would state "Are you looking to cancel your Pro account or trial? You can edit your Pro settings and remain a Geni user." ----- are you aware that "edit your Pro settings" appears in blue, but the rest of that quoted sentence appears in orange which does not stand out at all and is harder to read than the regular black print or the blue?? "highlighted" should, ideally, mean it stands out more - unfortunately, it does not.

Since I did not have any idea my relative was going to close her Geni Account until after it was done, I did not refer her to any of the links. Hopefully they will be useful for others.

Yes, I knew that "closing a Geni account is different from cancelling a subscription" - my first thought was that she had inadvertently closed the account when she meant to cancel the subscription. However, her responses to my back-and-forth with her after I saw the account was closed (two e-mails from me on this topic) lead me to believe at the very least that that is not the case now, and may never have been the case (and I fear my attempts to clarify may seriously have alienated a relative).

I failed to get any answer to my question to her re; did she also Cancel her Pro Subscription.

Hence my asking here, will a Closed Account be Charged for Pro? In my view, Geni should be programmed so if a person closes their account during the Trial Period, the Trial is cancelled, just as if they cancelled the Subscription and then Closed the Account. And similarly, if they are on automatic renewal, if they Close the Account, the renewing should be cancelled, same as if they first Cancelled and then Closed the Account. However, a couple of anomalies(mentioned in my first post) lead me to fear this might not be the way it currently is programmed.

Isn't there a problem if the user have used PayPal?

Geni does not have access to cancel via PayPal, the user have to do it him/her self as far as I understand.

Yes, you are correct Bjørn, thank you. I apologize for not including the PayPal information.

For credit card users:
If a user closes their Geni account while in the free trial period, then their subscription will be cancelled automatically and they will not be charged. It would be the same if they were set up on auto-renewal, the auto-renewal will be cancelled when they close their Geni account.

For PayPal users:
If a user closes their Geni account, their subscription will not be automatically cancelled. If the user is in their trial period or are on auto-renewal, they will need to cancel their subscription through their PayPal account. The instructions on how to cancel through PayPal are listed in the 'Geni Premium Account' settings and also in our F.A.Q.:
