Here's an interesting claim from the interweb:
De Bonte Koe is not named for world famous Friesian diary herds but rather for heroic VOC captain Willem Ijsbrandz Bontekoe.

Nice change up. Now I know where Holstein cattle came from and the definition of pied. Does anyone have any information on a "bonte koe zingen"?
