I contacted Mr. Rice, the profile manager of this tree, on 1 April 2011 requesting documentation for John being the son of James Epperson.
I contacted him again today with the same request and also requesting documentation for Catherine, Martha, and Sally as daughters of James Epperson.
James Epperson., b: Bet. 1792–1797, d: 1858 in Wythe County, Virginia, was my 3rd great-grandfather. There were several James in Lunenburg and Brunswick County, Virginia and I am still in the process of sorting out exactly which was which and how they were related.
I believe that my 3rd great-grandfather James was on the Lunenburg County tax lists in 1813, 1816, 1817, 1818, 1819, and 1820 as James Apperson. He is referred to as "son of Jonathan" in the 1817, 1818, and 1819 tax lists. See my tree "L.D.Epperson" on Ancestry.com.
I have been researching my lines since 1985. I have personally visited and researched in Wythe County, Lunenburg County, and Brunswick County, Virginia. I hired a professional geneaolgist to research the Wythe County records (which returned much valuable information including James' estate inventory and sale and a signed document by James, Jr. requesting the Wythe County clerk to issue a marriage license for his son and my 2nd great-grandfather, Joseph W. Epperson).
I would be thrilled to discover that James had a son John or daughters Catherine, Martha, or Sally, but I have not yet run across any information that might indicate such. If anyone reading this has such documentation, I would be most interested. Meanwhile I would caution anyone from blindly listing them as family members until it can be verified.
Sincerely,
L. Dale Epperson
