I am looking for details- information about Amelia Jane Picard who lived in Canvastown NZ. She is my great great grandmother. Her parents were William Alfred Picard and Amelia Jane Midgley. I think she was born around 1877, however that is the year given to the birth of her brother John Picard. Amelia Picard married Hakaraia Hemi Whiro. They had two children, Kiti and Huria (Julia) who is my great grandmother. I know her husband died first, and I heard she died reasonably young. I noticed she hasn't been added to the Picard family genealogy that I have come across. I am not sure why this is. Perhaps it is because she married a native- Nz Maori.
291 descendants of her daughter Julia, will be having a family reunion March 2013 and we would love to have information about her and her family.

Hi Noeline , Just came across your post looking for a history of my family .
My ancestor was Alfred C. Picard. This was William Alfred Picards father.
I have been always told that my ancestor a woman found gold in the river next to where the trout hotel is in Canvastown . The interesting thing was my father had it wrong he thought it was from his mother side who were named Pope. So it was either Amelia Jane or Julia. My Father , Vincent came from Shannon , his father William came from I 'm not sure. I know you are looking for information but I have very little . Somewhere along the track where related .
