Susan,

Here are just some of the standard references used in compiling the history of the Gass/Goos family from Maine including its links to the Patick families plus there was extensive interviewing done with various relatives about a dozen years ago. The names in the official records sometimes differed from the names commonly used. A lot of men showed up in the records as Samuel but they used different Yiddish names like Shloime or Sheptsel.

Passenger and Crew Lists of Vessels Arriving at New York, NY, 1897-1957, vol. 636, p. 123, line 8, NARA microfilm T715, reel 365 [at National Archives]. It is not clear why Shloime’s first name is listed as Leb, but the embarkation manifest for the SS Batavia from Hamburg gives the correct name.

There are even more references but you get the idea.

Please give the specific names that are in conflict with your list and I will look up the specific reference.

My quest is: Elias & Anne (Hinde) Patiky. Elias' parents and his children. I have a couple that have the same name for their parents: David Patick and Bessie Patiky. I have Bessie connected to my tree. It is said David married a 1st cousin. That is ruled out. Could he have married is sister? The immigration, naturalization and marriage information on David's brothers in Mass should reveal clues. This make for interesting detective work as a genealogist. Did Menasha arrive here or was he listed on a document? Thanks for your help.
Susan Field - a Patiky on my paternal side.

My maternal grandfather Max Patick married his first cousin Sara Gass! I know my grandfather Max had three brothers and one sister. His brothers were Velvil, Morris and David and I don't know what the sister's name was. Any info you can share would be great.

Paul and Claire send me your e-mail and I can send you pdf's of the reports I generate from Family Tree Maker. I'm guessing Velvil is William. I am in contact with others on your branch and together we can figure out how to piece together the puzzle.

Our family are all photographing the stone right now to piece the family together. I think there are some errors on your tree.
