My Grandfather is 6 generation back is Samuel E. Edwards, through my Father.
Just finished reading this book the Ohio hunter(republished in 1976, but an orignal is available on Ebay for close to the sum you mentioned) and just to update, some of this information is incorrect.
Samuel E. Edwards was born in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania in 1810. Family moved to Ohio in 1812, and then just a few yrs. later his father died.
Unfornately, there are no names listed in his book for his parents. Only siblings listed are George and John, although, he states when his father died his mother had to raise 7 dependent children.
He was married twice
Mary Altman who died in a fire in his book.
Rachel Hill - 2nd wife. I am a decendent of their last child Grant Edwards or also listed in some places as Samuel Grant Edwards.
Unfortunately, connecting the Edwards family outside of Ohio is very difficulty. Apparently, early cenus data is gone due to the war of 1812, the British burned it.
There is a land record of the Father of the Ohio Hunter buying land in in 1812, which goes along with the book, also a will in 1817 that is close to the death date per the book. The name listed in both of these documents is simply "Samuel Edwards".
Note that there is another Samuel Edwards in Ohio at this time, so it is quite confusing.
Assuming that these 2 records are the Ohio Hunter's father, Samuel E. Edwards father is "Samuel Edwards" with a wife named Catherine, it is really hard to link anything outside of Ohio.
If anyone has additional documents or first hand knowledge that is passed down, this would be a great lead!
This Samuel E. Edwards Born March 22, 1810 (Known as the Ohio Hunter) is my GGG grandfather and part of this information I see is incorrect, been working on this family since 1969 and I have a lot of information. His parents are Jonathan Edwards born Pennsylvania and Mary McGreger Born

Where did you find the middle name of Earl for Samuel E. Edwards, I have never came across any middle name for him. I have been to Henry County, Ohio many times going thru records at libuary and probate court records, Cemetery records, etc.

Hi Judy,
Thank you for your information. I've seen alot of data about Jonathan Edwards and Mary McGreger. How do you know for certain that they are the parents of Samuel E. Edwards.
I have come across the Samuel E. Edwards via unofficial sources on ancestory.com.
I also have the copy of the "Ohio Hunter" book.
Are you certain about the child from his son's wife? He would of been 64 years old. Ugh! He sure didn't mention that in the book.
Hi, I am a from the line of Samuel E. Edwards and Mary Rachel Hill.
Their daughter Loretta F. Edwards married Charle Henry Punches, their son Vernon O. Punches married Lura L. Shultz who had a son Kenneth Punches, my grandfather, who married Elizabeth Mae Hamilton and had my mother Terryl L. Punches.
I Have the Ohio Hunter, but can not find the "Western Pioneer". Google the Ohio Hunter, Samuel E. Edwards on Ebay or goggle and there is an orignal printing for sale.
To Judy - I look Jonathan Edwards & Mary McGregor. The Jonathan Edwards I found that is listed by many desendents has a DOB of the around the early 1718ish time frame which has him moving to Ohio & having children at 90 old. Judy do you have a DOB for Jonathan Edwards. Also, there are no death records for him in Ohio.
Don't know if this would be of any help but one of the James Edwards children is
Samuel Edwards he went to Ohio, states county.
Came across this while looking for my Stewarts
