I just returned from a "Roots" trip to Lithuania and Poland. I visited a number of towns in Poland in the former Suwalki and Lomza Gubernias as well as Kalwarija (Kalvariya), Meretch (Merkine), and Ratnycia (Rotnitsa) in Lithuania. I have photos of cemeteries and can share what I observed if you had ancestors in these areas.

Interested in the Kalwarija cemetery! If you search Kalwarija on TTT, there's a photo of my relatives from there. I posted it back in March; haven't made too much progress since.

Sadly, a wonderful photo album of my late grandfather's trip back to Wizajny and Suwalki in 1979 that was at my mother's place in Houston was destroyed in the floods last May. More survived than I'd dared to hope, but not that. Hoping that my uncle has copies.

I visited what is supposedly the NEW cemetery. Apparently the old cemetery has only a single grave standing. The new cemetery has an ornate Chevra Kadisha building and many gravestones, although they were overgrown by tall grass and some were fallen when I visited in 2012.

I'll search on TTT. Chaia, I will friend you on FB and you can see my photo albums from that trip. There should be an album devoted to Kalwarija.
