Mary MacKay
Are you referring to: Alfred Felix Võisiku?
You are his profile's manager, so this info shall be written into his profile.
Is he still living? If deceased then please make him public.
Was he born in Estonia?
Alfred Feliks Võisiku is very-very Estonian name.
In Estonia we have village with name Võisiku: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V%C3%B5isiku + also Võisiku Manor: http://www.mois.ee/english/vilj/voisiku.shtml
Also there was parish/commune: Võisiku vald in Viljandimaa county 1939-1950.

According to this page: http://www.okupatsioon.ee/et/memento-1996/204-v2-1996 we know that Mr. Johannes Võisiku (son of Jüri Võisiku) was born in Roela parish, Virumaa county and he was arrested by Soviet powers in Peressaare village, Tudulinna parish, Virumaa county.
"VÕISIKU, Johannes, Jüri s. 1893 Virumaa Roela v., arr. 06.01.45 Tudulinna v. Peressaare k., trib. 24.07.45 §58-1a, 58-11, 10+5, vab. 11.07.55. [ük]"

Do you know your grandfather's name?

By the way - you have very nice tree+album here: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/16794489/person/1311472381

So please make Allfred in Geni also public, add his dates (1925-2000) etc.
NB! in Ancestry he can be found as Alfred Voisiku, Alf Voisiku, Alfred F Voisiku, Alfred Feliks Voisiku, Alfred Vöisiku, Alfred Feliks Vöisiku

Lauri, what a lovely surprise to hear from you! Some of the info about Voisiku was speculative, based on somewhat similar spellings, so I took those off.
WHat does "vab. 11.07.55. [ük]" mean? He was in a prison/work camp in the Ukraine?

He began working on ships (merchant marine) as an electrician, starting in 1946. He sailed out of Gothenberg, Sweden. Most of his voyages were for the United Fruit Company.

Yep - all such seamen lifes are well documented in Ancestry.com - nearly each arrival to US is registered.

Lauri,
I don't know how I missed all of this. At one point, my birthmother said his last name sounds more like Voi-see-ay. But it was so long ago, so maybe her memories are not longer correct.

Too much similarities for Alfred-Felix Võisiku / Veinman, son of Johannes in Estonian sources. No need to look for alternatives.

Register yourself in SAAGA http://www.ra.ee/vau/index.php/en/account/create to look Roela church books aabout Veiman's: http://www.ra.ee/dgs/addon/nimreg/result.php?s_name=Veinman&c_i...=

Johannes with his parents, siblings and first child (daughter) is here: http://www.ra.ee/dgs/_purl.php?shc=EAA.3114.1.63:393?577,3053,3321,...

I am now registered and looking through records.

I see a name Tuoma Pilli on record you sent me-- and I also see Pihlaji in my list of DNA surnames

4/27/2014 at 12:07 PM

Please don't believe in so detailed results of DNA analyses...

Pili / Pilli surname don't have any relationship to Surname Pihlai / Pihla at all. [Tooma] means that father's or grandfather's given name was Toomas.
You are trying to react on one false positive inside 1% of DNA-Analysed trees but you don't know 100's of possible matches in 99% of non-DNA-Analysed trees.
It will take at least 10 years until we can use DNA in real life for Genealogy. At least 30...40 of current population shall be analysed....
