Dear Alan Cayo as Hatte Anne Blejer already said researching Irish ancestors can be quite tricky due to the fact that most records were burned during the troubles in Ireland in the old days
Saying that there are some church records that slowly become available .
We have created an Irish portal here on Geni for those of us researching in Ireland, the portal also contains a list of useful links and sources that might help you search.
See http://www.geni.com/discussions/101805
I had a quick look and noticed that www.rootsireland.ie has 18 record matches for the name Margaret Pentony. You say she was your grandmother born in 1854, do you know anything else about her, like did she marry, did she stay in Ireland ect.
I have send you a request to collaborate with me, if you can put up the details and profiles that you do know about I can mabe help you along a bit with your family-tree, if this is ok with you?
Regards
Annemarie

Hi Alan,
You should have received a notification that I have requested to collaborate with you , see a little red box beside your name in the top right corner of the screen. All messages and requests can be viewed there.
No need to give me an email or login, collaborating will allow me to help you with your tree.
Alan, will you do me a favor and remove your message above, everyone can see your login and password, no need for this at all, safer to remove :)
I will have a look what I can find for you
Annemarie
Its shows that it is a small world and we are all related :) But Atilla de Hun had his good sides too so that is probably what your wife means
I will have a look at the people in your tree and see where we can find Margarets family in Ireland, I think the Dublin record above could be your Maggie Pentony (btw Pentony is not an Irish name and they were protestant so more then likely English descent)
My research indicates that she is of Anglo-Norman decent which many call English. The Pentony family name stems from a shortening of "Repentany" after a village of that name in Normandy so I would call her French. No matter though as the Pentony name is most numerous in Loath, Meath and Dublin counties and I suppose if she was born in either North Ireland or the "real" Ireland she would be Irish, n'est-ce pas?
