Is it now impossible to use Geni on Internet Explorer 7?
Public Institutions I frequent are still using it -- but when I tried to use Geni with it, could not get drop-down windows, did not see news, etc. (Fortunately, I thought to try erasing "home" in the address window and typing in "logout" instead after "www.geni.com/", then clicking - apparently that succeeded in getting me logged out)
Hi Private User - Yes, we have decided to no longer support Internet Explorer 7. That browser is nearly 6 years old, and with the pace of change on the web today, it's lacking many, many features and additionally has several security issues. We keep a close eye on the number of users we have using each browser, and IE7 usage has dropped to a very low level. Because we're a small team, it just isn't feasible for us to do double or triple work to support browsers that are only being used by a tiny percentage of users.
Geni is not alone in the decision to stop supporting IE7. Several popular web applications have also made this decision, and moving forward more and more web sites will no longer be usable in this outdated browser. I encourage you to speak to the staff at the public institutions you frequent about getting some upgrades on their computers. Browsers are free to download and install, so the cost and effort on their side is very small. If enough people bring the problem to their attention, surely it will be rectified.
