Elizabeth Boleyn (nee: Howard), Countess of Wilshire

Now that's a very interesting question Jethro. It's been a long time since I read the Alison Weir biography and I just skimmed the Wikipedia article. She seems to have been educated, beautiful and ambitious. What do you make of her?

Elizabeth Boleyn (Howard), was a descendant of Edward I, mother of three prominent children, and mother and Grandmother to two Queen's of England, with a large prominent family- I don't understand why she is absent from so much history, and why she allowed such atrocities to take place; why, being the mother of the Queen, and relative of such powerful people, did she allow two of three of her children to be executed, why did she not rebel, and start a revolution, etc against her son-in-law, why did she absence herself.

I believe she would have been a powerful person, but for some reason, is absent from record.

Even Katherine Parr's mother Maude Parr (Green) is known, so why so little on Elizabeth Boleyn (Carey)?

And perhaps that's because of our "view" of the record? By comparison with other noble Tudor women? Clearly she kept herself out of the "spotlight" her daughters perhaps sought - yet they would have been prepared for it by her. I recall the Boleyns being considered extremely ambitious and that in fact was the cause of some of Anne's difficulties. I did read that Mary Boleyn's behavior did not meet either mother or sister approval.
