The Boots information came from the book "Mathews Family of the Southern States," which is located on this site. This theory excludes our family. It indicates that the "William," which was the son of Moses Mathews, married an Alice Gaither which indicates that "our William" is another family altogether, or followed another branch. Boots seems to be pretty thorough in his research and seems to have pretty clear proof that this William married an Alice Gaither.
