This profile's a mess, so I just added a source from the Phelps family website that quotes from an 1899 book. It shows that this William Phelps was born in Crewkerne, Somerset, not over in Tewkesbury. There is a totally different William Phelps in Tewkesbury. Also, this profile shows George Phelps as his brother, but that's not true either. I haven't found any known parents for this William from Crewkerne, so he should be disconnected from the parents that this tree has him attached to.

This profile's information is mostly the Crewkerne guy, so I think a past merge mixed some things up. I can't correct the birth place on his profile though, so can somebody get that done please?

Actually, I think somebody should confirm what I found about his parents, before changing anything, since that would drastically affect the line back to the Plantagenet's. I was just thinkin' that just because I didn't find any known parents, doesn't mean the parents listed here are wrong. It could be his... or it could be the unrelated "Tewkesbury" Phelps parents.

Hi cousin Devon

Great work, thank you! I updated the birth place and date and added a link to the DNA project. We need to do something about the parents because "brother" George Phelps cannot possibly have been his brother ...

Hi cousin Devon - William Phelps is my 8th ggf. Thanks for all the research!

I'll see what I can find on NEGHS about the early Phelps.

My mom will be so interested in this. Thanks. I have to see if my ggg grandmother Margaret Phelps had brothers with male descendants.

I will edit it all when I have a chance, but quick answers here:

1). Wm and George are not brothers, DNA proved that.
2) Wm was "of Crewkerene, Somerset, England." We still do not know where he was born, but there is a HIGH probability he was from Dorset and/or Yeovil, Somerset, England. We still do not know who his parents so any mention of parents have to eliminated. That includes Elizabeth Marshall, etc. His two wives are Mary unk and then Anne Dover.
3) I am very involved in the Phelps DNA project, have been in the past several years.
4) In fact, there is a team who just started a Brit DNA project so we can try to find our matches across the Pond. I am one of the members on it. We just started it...
5) Come and join my facebook group called Descendants of New England Phelps - for all those who had Phelps from one of the 4 lines that originated in MA and CT, that includes Wm and Geo lines. We've got some really great members. Always helping one another too. It's been great!
6. I will clean up/verify all of this on Genie so that everyone will have the CORRECT info. It'll take me a while too so be patient with me. I will also add info to the profile over time too as I work on each section at a time.
Thanks.

This is my line: http://www.geni.com/path/Hatte+Blejer+is+related+to+William+Phelps+...

My great grandmother's sister was named for our Phelps ancestors (Margaret Phelps Williams). The name repeats for several generations as a middle name in my family.
