John Wathen, who came to Maryland in1670 is NOT the son of either Charles nor John Sr. and Mary Mullett! John is a very popular name in Britain at that time.
Winifred Wolseley Mullett, born 1608, Colwich, Staffordshire, is the wife of Rev. William Mullett of London She and Rev. William came to Maryland in 1675; she wrote a will on her deathbed, 20 April 1685. Will was probated in London 3 March 1697, naming her nieces Helen Spratt and Anne Knipe, James Amos and wife, Margery, niece Mary Brooke and her daughter Ann, Mary Davis, Mary Wathen, negro Cis, Mrs. Anne Pye and Edward Pye, (Barnes, Robert W: British Roots of Maryland Families, Genealogical Publishing Co., p. 475)
She named her nieces; obviously the rest are friends, relatives of some sort, or neighbors. I have more documentation for this but can't find it immediately.
Also note that Rev. Wolseley had a wife - therefore he wasn't Catholic - John was. Quite frankly, I don't even know who Mary Wathen is -John's wives were both named Susannah/Susan. She could even be related to John Walthen of Accomack Co.,Va. who arrived earlier than either of them. (note the "l" in Walthen.)
