Web-contributor dilemma.
Interesting to see on Wikipedia similar message that you exceeded the Basic limit of 100 articles.

Dear Geni,
you surly has all right to set-up a fee for premium features, and I totally support it personally. But growing my family tree is a basic one. And also, it's your mission to grow the largest tree in the world. How you are going to reach that setting up this kind of limits?

Finding a business model that works isn't easy and always a compromise of some sort.

Lars,
If you look on Geni as a business, they has two basic ways to make many. By growing their user base with premium feature fee or by setting up higher margin on their existing costs whith fee on basic functionality and without any significant growth perspective.

What Geni is doing now, is basically second one. Geni just do not see growth possibility anymore some reason, and trying to get more from existing customer base, which is beginning of their end. @Geni, you should grow you business again, it has everything - potential, mission, engaged users, curators. All you need to do is make it work for users which is not here yet. They are maybe not a big fans of genealogy but may want to help their relatives who already on Geni to build the tree, if you make it easier for them to do that. However, by making it impossible to use basic Geni without paying you you doing the opposite.

I've posted my ideas on how to grow Geni without bad business model here http://www.geni.com/discussions/107523 and here http://www.geni.com/discussions/107521
