From what I have read in a few places - folks using google image search can get around most of Geni's privacy / security. For example, if they saved your image from next to a comment in a Public Discussion or when it came up in a search, uploaded that into google image search - they were then shown your Profile Page as your Family would see it -- not the view Geni shows to non-connected Geni members.
Google Image Search seems to require a membership, and given all that is going on with Google vis a vis privacy, so far I am avoiding. Does anybody have such an account, and is this still a problem?
Had seen several comments in very short order, so started worrying. Cannot find the very explicit comment I saw in Public Discussions (guessing it was deleted - was guessing possibly because they felt too dangerous, but could have been because they realized was artifact of being logged in to Geni) . Did find this example in Help : http://help.geni.com/entries/21181336-breach-of-data-protection-can...
After reading Mike's response, it did occur to me it might at least in part (or in whole) be due to being logged in to Geni. Bjorn - do you want to suggest that to the poster of that Help Comment, see if that solves their problem/is any way reassuring to them?
Have now been playing with images.google.com - trying both logged in, logged out of Geni - then discovered differed if in IE7 vs. firefox, so still more exploring to do. It is definitely a sort of interesting way of finding info on folks in Geni.
