I entered the surname WACHSLER into "Search People" on top of every Geni page and noticed a big change from the previous day.
They were 12 extra names (supposedly).
As I scrolled through the pages, I noticed that all the profiles that I changed the previous day to "public" disappeared!
That is until I got to the last page, where all my "public" profiles were lumped together, and the total WACHSLER count on top of the page changed from 109 to 97, while the amount of pages changed from 6 to 5.

THERE, AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LAST PAGE, WERE ALL 12 PROFILES THAT I CHANGED TO "PUBLIC".

Is this a glitch, or what?

I am more convinced than ever tat the function of "Search People" is in need of REPAIR.
While trying to find SALOMON or SOLOMON ZELLER, I have found the same Jennifer Zeller in at least five consecutive pages.
I also know for a fact that the alphabetical order in "Search People" is in complete disarray, and getting worse over time.

I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM A GENI REPRESENTATIVE WHY DO THEY EXPECT US TO TO PAY FOR DIMINISHING SERVICE?
THE FACT THAT THEY ARE VERY SELDOM THERE TO ANSWER YOUR GRIPES IS VERY UPSETTING Y DOES NOT MAKE FOR GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Daniel - as far as I can see, the search function was improved recently in response to user requests for more frequent indexing, which now seems to occur every half hour, rather than weekly or twice weekly as previously. So now when someone adds a profile you can find it pretty quickly. This was never previously the case. This seems to be a significant improvement.

It seems that some of the glitches you refer to were added when the indexing was improved. I guess that some algorithmic changes were made to shortcut the process so that re-indexing took much less time than previously.

Perhaps if you prioritise what improvements you would like to see, Geni might take that into account? For example, I am not fussed about alphabetic sorting, but I prefer not to see duplicate and triplicate entries in search results. Others may have different priorities. Perhaps we could have a reasoned discussion on search engine priorities.

@David Prins
Thanks for letting me know of the improvements.
That should have come from a Geni representative!
I agree with some of your ideas, and it would be interesting if there was something akin to an "improvement mailbox", and let the membership then vote which improvements/ changes are more important to them.

An improvement mailbox and let the membership then vote which improvements/ changes are more important to them. Yes that exists.

It's called feature requests.

And I agree that Geni should have announced the search engine changes - the improved frequency of indexing and the downside that might have come with that. I don't recall seeing any announcement of either.

I would say that the sorting option not sorting in search is a bug. I don't know if that has been reported. Duplicates and triplicates and more in search results is probably also a bug worth reporting. The count change changing during search might be a bug - or might be re-indexing during the search?
