The family tree shows two sons of Thomas R Batts: Benjamin and Jordan. I am not sure that this is the same Jordan Batts which the family tree show as having a son, Dillard, who married Ruby Stanley.
the Jordan batts who had a son names Dillard also had a brother named Dillard, but census records from Union County, KY 1880 do not show that Jordan had a brother named Benjamin. It appears from the above mentioned census that Thomas R Batts and his {?second} wife Fannie along with his children Maggie and Joseph lived on adjoining properties in Union County in 1880. Jordan Batts came to Webster County around 1891 when he purchased some property on Deer Creek. If Jackson Laumas sees this post, according to the family tree you are a descendant of this Jorda Batts through his daughter, Ruth Akins. I married into this family and have done some research.
Hi Peggy,
I believe it is the same Jordan Batts.
I did not have any information that Thomas R. Batts had a second wife so thank you for that information!
Benjamin Batts and his brother Jordan Taylor Batts were the sons of Thomas Batts and Sophrona A. Meadows Batts. We have information about other children of Thomas Batts but some of those children (like Maggie and Joseph) must be from his second wife.
Jordan Taylor Batts married Nannie Batts in Union County in 1882 and their daughter Ruth Batts Akins is my 2nd great-grandmother.
Which Batts does your husband descend from?
I hope this helps,
Jackson Laumas
My husband, Charles Emerson Batts is the son of J.T. Batts, born 1914, the grandson of Dillard Batts, born 1885 and the great grandson of Jordan Batts born either in 1856 or 1857. I have quite a bit of information on the Batts family. i just typed alot of it and the computer wiped it out before I could post it. I will do it again later. We still live near the land where Jordan and Nannie Batts lived. My stepson still owns part of it.
Dear Peggy,
I am Jackson's Aunt Elizabeth and also his genealogy research buddy.
I would love to see what you have on the Batts family! Jackson and I have done the best we could with trying to research Jordan and Nannie using the information my Grandma gave me (Cordelia Keen, daughter of Ruth Akins).
Jackson and I went to Webster County last spring and looked at some of the old land deeds for the Deer Creek area and we tried to drive around to find the land but were pretty lost :-) We also tried to find Jordan's grave but had no luck at all. We were able to find Nannie's but only because my Grandma once showed me exactly where it was.
We are planning to make future trips to Sebree and Onton to do more research. Jackson and I live in Lexington.
Jackson tells me he and you are Facebook friends now. I would love to be Facebook friends with you as well and will send you a request.
