Hello Jadranka
Thank you for uploading the pages of your book that lists the names of the people in El Shatt, and where they came from. I have not been able to find my mother-in-law's family in those lists (or the name of a friend of theirs who went on to live in Australia). How complete do you think those lists are? And where would I be able to trace other lists/records if they exist?
Thanks
Celia
I am also interested in my relatives and also my wifes family of whom all were in the camps for some while.
Of the names I checked the ones I was expecting were not there shown but as you note can be based upon from where they came from or was in which area of the camp they were?
The dates I assume are birthdates? and the 'p ' names relate back to dead fathers or grandfathers name?
Yes David, p refers to fathers who were dead at the time.
I am strugling to come up with a good way to present this list. I have listing for all of the villages from Mkarsko primorje (Makarska region) - it looks like just from Podgora 1200 people were there (out of 1800 at the time).
Should we create a list for each place (it will be hard to edit list of 1200 entries), should we do them in batches?
So, if you have any good ideas, please help.
Alex Moes has already entered one page, but there is lot more to do.
So, please anyone interested in helping, join in.
I still have pages I have not scanned yet.
Possibly all names Alphabetical on Excel spread sheet with columns for village, current status and country , ages and other features.
Then anyone can filter surname and village if necessary to speed locate a person.
With my interest of Radojkovich
this family names occurs in at least 3+ villages
Podgora
Boga Moje
Loviste
FYI everyone, i've started added names to the list again (actually entering them onto the connected El Shatt - Internees Project).
I'm using excel this time to create the list and then cutting and pasting onto Geni. I'm aiming to do about a page a day which should get thru the list in a week or so - assuming i don't get distracted by any other shiney objects.
I reorganised this page today, somehow the list of people was in the middle of the description of the history of the camp.
Reads a lot better now, i think :)
I found my great grand parents and my grandfather's sister today on the list.
Still no sign of your relatives David, but i'm only up to page 41, if i find them i'll let you know.
I have looked through the book and cant find anything explaining what that is
This is http://www.geni.com/people/Ljubica-Kr%C5%BEani%C4%87-Cerezatti/3549..., she was born in 1882
As far as Geni goes your best bet is the list at the bottom of this page https://www.geni.com/projects/El-Shatt-WWII-refugee-camps/1065
Use Control+F buttons on your PC to bring up the search function then type in a name.
Once you find a record the only real indication of connections is the camp ID, they were just sequential so a family group driving at the same time should all be numbered in order from head of family to youngest.
If one of your family members names is on the list in blue click on it :)
I couldn't resist having a look myself :)
