Ziobroski HAFTAR / HALAS descendants and relatives
Looking for information and family members of Elias Alex Haftar (B 1903) and /or sister Paranka Paraskevia Haftar (B approx1896, emigrated 1909) , resident in Ivachiv, Ternopil,Ukraine before emigrating to Canada before and after WW1. Parents were Nykola Haftar and Varvara Leyer.
Uncle was Conrad Zais whose daughter Annie also came to Canada to marry Mike Timochko.
Mary Kopton (Mother Zais) born 1915 was orphaned that year in village shelling, emigrated with Elias 1920-1925 to Canada.
They joined Paranka who had married Hyrc Halas in Toronto Ontario in May 1915. Hryc (Hyri or Hryhoryj) born 1889 to parents Basil or Wasil Halas and mother Nastia Bezkorovajna in Galica (perhaps Bukovena) emigrating to Canada 1910-1913. A brother Michol also came to Canada. Brother Stephan died in Austrian Army WW1, and brother John died later in Siberia leaving wife and two daughters. Hryc's sister Mary married John Trasiuk in Ukraine and had a daughter Mary. Mother and daughter remained in Ukraine while John came to Canada.
Hyrc and Paranka had sons Nicholas, William and daugher Annie. Hryc died in 1940 and Paranka remarried widower Fred Skrypnyk. Fred's son Alec was a mechanic in Niagara and daughter Mary was an editor with the Ukrainian Canadian newspaper in Toronto. Fred had been interred in Northern Ontario during WW2, and worked in mines in Timmins and Cobalt Ontario.
Mary Kopton in 1933 married Josef (Joseph) Ziobrowski, born 02 Nov 1904 in Cortkow( Ozortkow) ivachiv ternopil ukraine, may have lived in Chemiakowka. Mother Rozalia PO Jagielnick Czortkow.
Elias married Pauline Komarniski in Toronto Ontario Canada Sept 1941. Pauline's parents were nykola komarniski B1884 and magdelena kondra (1894-1960).
