As family history is told by the Jimenez Elders of The Family that we may have been Aztec decent .....and it was something they still speak of having Indigenous Roots...

The Mystical Spanish Conquest of the Aztec Empire

Hernan Cortez from Spain was sponsored by the Royal Crown of Spain to continue with expeditions to the Americas. America was a vast open land with luscious fertile river valleys and Spain was ready to claim a stake over it.

In 1519, Cortez arrived in the present day Vera Cruz, Mexico where he founded the first Spanish settlement and named it “Villa Rica De La Vera Cruz”. The dominant population of the region was the Aztec Indians under the rule of the powerful Monctezuma.

When Cortez first landed, the Aztecs thought he was one of their Gods, Quetzalcoatl, who was characterized by light skin, red hair, and light eyes and Cortez resembled those characteristics. It was a mystical belief of the Aztecs that Hernan Cortez was Quetzalcoatl and were enlightened by him to the point of lavishing adoration. In the Aztec Mythology, Quetzalcoatl was a manifestation of the sun god Tezcatlipoca and was represented as a plumed serpent.

Amongst gold and precious stones, Cortez was given, as a gift, an Indian Princess by the name of Malintzin, whom he called Malinche and Dona Marina. These gifts had been sent to Cortez by Monctezuma as a form of adoration for Quetzalcoatl.

Malinche became a mistress to Cortez and gave birth to his first son, Martín, who is considered one of the first Mestizos, people of mixed European and indigenous American ancestry. Malinche’s sexual relationship to Cortés gave rise to the term La Chingada meaning disloyal. In present day Mexico the term malinchista refers to a disloyal Mexican.

Malinche was the perpetrator for the conquering of Monctezuma and the Aztec Empire by Cortez. Malinche had sided with Cortez and the Royal Crown of Spain as a revenge against the Aztecs because she had been sacrificed as a gift for Cortez.

The infamous conquest of the Aztec Empire was done on a night known as “La Noche Triste” (sad night) because of the great amount of blood shed from the Aztecs caused by the Spaniards. This took place at the “famous floating gardens of Xochimilco, Tenochtitlan”, the ancient Aztec Capital on present-day Mexico City, Mexico. Tenochtitlan was founded in 1325 and was destroyed by Hernan Cortez and his famous Spanish Conquistadors in 1521, thus the beginning of the Province of New Spain in the Americas ruled by the Royal Crown.

In 1552, Evaristo Rodrigo Cantu, known in the Province of New Spain as Don Vito Cantu, brought from Andalucia, Spain to the present day Mexico City, Mexico, two Barbary stallions and five mares. Don Vito Cantu was born in Andalucia Spain, at Dehesa De Oro near the ancient Ronda.

On September 20, 1596, Diego De Montemayor founded Ciudad Metropolitana de Nuestra Señora de Monterrey ("Metropolitan City of Our Lady of Monterrey", present day Monterey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
