I am new to this Indian part of my family research so bear with me please. My g-grandmother Melissa Ann Samuels passed down to her children that she was from a Cherokee/Shawnee line. I have her picture and it shows well. There is also a picture in the family somewhere I'm trying to get that has her wearing a Head-dress that was passed down to her.
When I started searching her family I found her father was a Jacob Shifflett but her mother was a Molly Polly Self. When I traced her Self line I found that a "Self" maybe a John Self married Catherine Rising Fawn Moytoy. "Self" may have been Shawnee to not sure? Catherine Rising Fawn Moytoy seems to be the daughter of Chief Oconostota ot from the line of Pigeon Moytoy. Does anyone have more information on these and the direct link to Catherine Rising Fawn Moytoy? I am told there may have been 2 of them with this name.

Here's the link to the first Rising Fawn

Catherine "Rising Fawn" Self

I've been trying to "clean up" the Scots originating Self tree - there sure were a lot of them! The native American intersection (s) could well have been both Shawnee and Cherokee.

Keep sharing your stories and working on these trees.
