I have never known Zambia and Zimbabwe regarded as being in Eastern Africa. Southern or Central. Placing them in Eastern Africa is news to me -doesn't sit right with me, despite the UN subregions!

Well done Victar, this is what I meant, we are here to help people so why not show ourselfs to the public.
I realise that not everyone wants to be publicly listed and I very much respect this, but for people who dont mind this is great.
Maybe a tip for others, I have edited my profile page so that it does not show that much information about myself anymore.

East Africa is not so strange as Mozambique used to be Portuguese East Africa and it extends right down to the Swziland and South African borders - much further south than Zambia and even Zimbabwe.
Just an observation.

Curators havent always existed, and our profiles dont show our Curatorship dates. I joined Geni 10 Jul, 2007.

I became a Curator on August 24, 2010.

David:I think she said "Thank You" to all those curators and others who HELP and is thankful that a good number of those who weren't really serious about genealogy (or were trouble makers) are gone.

And I think she asked if people's start date with Geni could be shown on their profiles (something that only curators can see now).

Curators are users and have the same privacy options as any other Geni member. Just a note. I joined Geni in 2007, became more active in 2010, and was invited to curate in September 2010.

We got the first 5 curators working silently on August 19th 2010 for a few days until it was announced to the public and already on the 24th we got the second round.

My profiles are no more "trustworthy" than someone else's. Curating on Geni is a different role from profile management.

I look for the sourced icon as an indicator for trust, which I accept before an unsourced field.

Ivan, thanks for the welcome! I am looking for somewhere to put up any Zimbabwean information I manage to decifer from the files that our wonderful mormons have been allowed to release. These files are difficult to work with and generally people give up trying and there are many of them searching for their roots. There also seem to be a lot of us working independantly to collect this information. The Rhodesian Diaspora has left many of us consious of the great need to conserve our historical documentation.
In Zimbabwean terminology, East Africa has always referred to Tanganika, Uganda and Kenya. Even Mozambique on the East Coast will not fall into that category I am not arguing the UN's demarkation lines, just suggesting that an exception be made here. It is extemely unlikely a Zimbabwean will go a site that says East Africa to look for the information they are so desperate for.

Magic, thanks Sharon. I have contacted June Barnes but glad for the invites. I didnt know about the first site.
Zim genealogical info is sparse and spread all over the place. If it could all be condensed into one place with referral back to the original source, I think they will come. I have access to a few meeting sites for ex Zimbabweans/Rhodesians who will probably be willing to let me put up a pointer back to Geni, but still need to do a lot of work to give them something to look at.
