Finnish....how does this fit in New Sweden Project?
Thanks

At that time Sweden and Finland was one country Sweden
But a part of Sweden was called Finland and First in 1809 Finland was separated from Sweden And become a part of Russia until 1917 when it became a free country

And Sweden Lost a part of eaten Finland to Russia in mid 1500 and moved many Finns to Värmland they are called “Forest Finns” and are named as Finns
And many of the “volunteers’” for New Sweden was recruited from Finland and from the group called “Forest Finns”

and Greats Grandpa to John Morton is Mårten Mårtensson

He came on the on the Eagel (Örnen) 1654 to New Sweden

This history is so interesting!

I just changed the name of Mårten Mårtensson's father into the swedish spelling so to make it possible to find the swedish/finnish forfathers. (Morton Mortonson is impossible to find.)

As sweden was kond of expansive at the time there is also parts i Norway called "Finnmarka" and is described in english at [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnskogen Wikipedia]

The description of the land in whats nowadays Sweden is somewhat different, but if you speak som swedish it migth be possible to understand some of this article [http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnskog Wikipedia]

Thank you, thank you, thank you--all very interesting! Its puts bits and pieces of my families stories in order....I have been so busy researching political issues-- what went wrong during and after the initial development of the articles of confederation which Great (5) Grandpa John Morton was the president of that I have not looked back farther....love the info thanks
