I understand and share your frustration but I can't see that as a winning strategy for two reasons;

- You will probably be shut off for doing "sabotage"
- Geni no doubt has backup of all translations so adding them back in is easy

Thanks for understanding and sharing my frustration.

Private User I will never support your idea of deletion!
How much had Geni paid for you for translations or what sum you agreed in advance? Or can't you now translate (as Basic User) any more?
If answers are No - then I can't see any relationship between current tree size limitations for free users and voluntarily made translations.

Well, probably the Holidays are not the best time to arrange the Solidarity movement in Geni. But no doubt it is a good time to do what ever you like to do with your unappreciated work. They will be celebrating...
Still, maybe we should first wait and see how American the Geni Inc. really is. It took me some time to learn how to appreciate the work of the postman, doorman, etc while living in New York. It is a nice custom to leave them Holiday tips for their underpaid job.
I have no clue if this also works on the West Coast.
Our work on translating the Geni has been done in good will. It is measured. So isn't it a time for Geni to show it's appreciation?
St. Noah, are you listening?
And no, it's not about having a chance to send some uninspiring virtual gifts or other nonsense. I am talking about the PRO badge - not paid but gifted for merit!

Geni got me aboard on a covenant that it would allow me to develop my family tree without hindrance.

Earlier, the notifications would notify me if there were profiles similar to those on my tree. I would search for those profiles or the managers thereof and merge those trees. Now I only get the notifications but am not allowed the latter actions.

Geni claims that it is a GENEALOGICAL SOCIAL NETWORK. Not allowing members to add each other and communicate with each other is not the hallmark of a social network.

In all fairness, Geni has the right to remuneration. Geni could insert advertisements on the page of its basic users like most social networks do.

With competition from sites like WeRelate, FamilyTree, Verwandte and applications like Gramps, Geni can ill afford to lose its users.

We need to find an alternative to Geni. Any suggestions? See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_web-based_genealogy_soft... .

This list (in Swedish) shows web based services that are popular in Sweden:

I don't know, may be we do have to wait until the end of the חנוכה?
There are couple of more days left...
As there is now no way for a meager translating bookworm like myself to search and find the great CEO in shining armour, and tag him here. Let me test the filters of the discussion forums instead:

Magnus Eriksson , Geni is a genealogical social network. It not only helps us identify how our relatives are related to us but also conveniently communicate with them. the link you've provided mentions applications that one needs to download on ones computer. A drawback of these applications is that one can not collaborate with ones relatives if one uses these applications. so one has to call contact ones relatives and build the tree all by oneself. with genealogical social networks like Geni and Verwandte, one can leave the "distant cousins" to make additions to the tree.

A few users of Google+, me included, have requested them to have an inbuilt family tree.

Hopefully Geni, under Noah Tutak, pays heeds to its users' disappointment before it goes the Orkut way.
