So, now I'm advised that I have too many (100+) family members --- Now, how do I "get rid of" the excess -- so I can stay on Geni basic?

And which family members can I get rid of -- the ancestors??? OR the "cousins" which right now go out to something like 4th cousins once removed?
I would Like to "keep" 2nd cousins once removed and closer.......do I have a choice? or does GENI make whatever changes it decides to....??????

Now that I have Finally put my ancestor info onto a separate program, I'm not so Scared!!!! of Geni takjng away the record of my 12+ years of research. But it is a shame that others would no longer be able to see those results, if it would help in Their search.

I have enjoyed "meeting" some of my cousins through Geni, and our helping each other with research. But there Are other sites, like Roots.web that are also helpful - though not in such a "personal" way.

Anyway.....does anyone have any idea how the changeover will take place, in a case such as mine?
(I Will be glad to get rid of some of the 20,000+ ancestors that are more likely myth than reality.)
Thank you!

Bob

You do not have to get rid of anything. You still have access to all the profiles you added. You can still edit them as you like. You just can not add any more profilies.

Charles I think there is a legitimate question here.

If a Geni Basic/Plus user has exceeded the 100/1000 limit, they can't add any more profiles.

Obviously in that case the Geni.com preference in the first instance is that the user goes Pro. But in the second instance, if for any reason they aren't going Pro, what's the advice from Geni.com then?

I can see that a Basic or Plus user might want for example to add a new child in preference to retaining a distant cousin. Charles, would you advise in that case that is something they should do? When Geni.com management introduced these limits, they must have thought through these types of consequences. Please could you share those thoughts and outcomes with us the users? Thanks!

@david Prins, I regret to say that you are possibly being overly generous in your assumption that "they must have thought through these types of consequences" It seems clear to me that had they done so we would not be having such conversations now.

@I am really annoyed at the 100 limit. I've spent hours and hours adding relatives to what I thought was a great site. Now the rules have changed and I cannot add any more without upgrading. Geni should have stuck to their origninal rules - how can they get away with changing the rules when so many of us, who were using the site in good faith, have invested so much time in Geni. Can anyone suggest another site?
