I have been a user since May 2008, and have learnt a lot about my ancestors, and have watched my tree grow and grow...although there are still some weak and withered branches... I am not a active genealogist, but rather a armchair reseacher. So love sharing the information I find and that others have found. I am less interested in the politics and fighting that erupted recently mainly over naming conventions and where to use caps etc. etc. What am interested in is the data NOT how it is presented... I would also love to see a South African Project for introductions and to help those stuck on part of there tree..

Kind Regards
Donovan

Donovan, great suggestions

- Do you want to look at what we've got and help us develop them? We need your input, and it really can be fun :-)

I'm adding you as a collaborator to the projects that we have at the moment that meet these descriptions of yours:

South African Project for introductions = That's this page

and to help those stuck on part of there tree. = http://www.geni.com/projects/South-African-Stamouers-Progenitors-Tr...; http://www.geni.com/projects/South-African-Stamouers-Progenitors-Tr...

If you don't to - just remove yourself from them. Hoping you do though :-)

Thanks Sharon
I will have a look and do my best to give input!

Regards
Donovan

:-)

You asked! So here goes -

I use Geni because

* I love my Family History
* I love the fact that Geni helps me share it with others who also enjoy FH, * Geni shows me how I am connected to so many people - all over the world!
Like you Donovan I love the research - nothing like the hunt when new clues unfold and open up new lines of research!

This to me is what Geni is all about, and I would like to continue to share what I have found out with others - not only in connection with my own family history but to do with areas that interest me too - the Botanists, Pioneers, people of Hastings etc. It pleases me so much when these little floating branches of family get connected to the big tree - all magic stuff. I hope we can all carry on enjoying out mutual interest amicably. I agree that how it is presented isn't the BIG ISSUE - we need to work side by side with these objectives in mind -

- furthering/expanding our research
- adding sources and reasons for our conclusions
- sharing our finding with others by adding documents/images/sources if we have them
- collaborating with others
- working side by side and making compromises where necessary. There are always 2 sides to everything and we need to work out how we can present both amicably to suit all.

So - let us get on with the job in hand and make our trees as good and as clean as we can. Let's build a community on the foundation of our shared enthusiasms, with friendship at the top of the list.

Hey, June, Geni should use your answer in their advertising! :-)

Agreed

I love Geni because of the connections.

Right now I'm exploring and expanding a family tree. A wonderful poet is how this got started; his profile wasn't on Geni but his grandparents were.

And oh my, what a trip! I connected the branch up through the notorious (and hilarious) Tallulah Bankhead - my 14th cousin!

The poet's ancestry goes back to Spain through Florida, sideways to war of 1812 Wasungon, DC and then wandering over to wine vineyards in Napa Valley, California. I'm now tracking that line back to Colonial Massachusetts, which of course will take me to England ... And hence, to cousins Sharon and June!

On the road I get to find out about politicians, generals, industrialists, playboys, con artists, episcopalian bishops, and who knows who next.

Nothing could be more fascinating.

It's a peoples history of the world, one family at a time. Just thinking about it that way turns history on it's ear.

Geni is a cross between advanced Soduko, investigative logics and a good detective case searching for clues in the labyrinths named archives!
My wife calls Geni my girfriend.
O.K. I am heavily addicted!!

Yes, Erica and Daan - It's the characters I love the best.
"A PEOPLE'S HISTORY OF THE WORLD PLAYED AT ADVANCED SUDUKO LEVELS"
is the best description so far! Private User, Mike Stangel & Private User - if you're looking for an advertising slogan... :-)

Caroline & Petrus on our Landing page have just discovered what looks like a duplicate profile amongst their relatives from the 1800s, except they each have a different wife and children for him without knowing about the other.
Serial monogamy? Serial polygamy?? or just a typo??? - The investigation of clues begins... (Personally, I'm holding out for the second one as the best story;-)
