Do you speak, read or write GERMAN? If so, please join : http://www.geni.com/projects/International-German-Portal
mit vielen GRUSSchEN, jeannette.
Dear Jeanette,
No, I do not speak German. I do know enough French and Spanish to get the gist of a msg or article. Because of my heavy Germanic roots, I am interested in this project. I am looking for a translator for my browser. If you know of one I can use, please direct me that way. Now that I have found so many family connections in Sweden, Norway, Danish, Nederland, Russian and Germany, I'm in need of one. Since we are cousins, hopefully we can assist one another, however we can. Katherine (Kat) Long
Am of German ancestry.
Family names are as follows:
Christ
Laun
Otto
Lederer
Arndt
Wolfe
Wilke
My MT DNA is Haplogroup T2 -Margarethe Louise Karoline Lederer is most distant known ancestor born 1849.
My Y DNA Haplogroup is I1 - John Christ, great grandfather.
Am particularly interested in the Otto family as their female line follows the T2 MT dna. Also interested in the Lederer family line which is also following the T2 MT DNA and the Laun family name.
So- Christ going back to Laun to Otto to Lederer and looking for her mother's family line and name.
Might possibly be related thru Otto's to the Pope Otto I, II, III, IV, & V.
Have yet to get my Otto family DNA tested.
Seems more difficult to start with ones self and work back in time.
What other information would one require?
My main interest in this site is that there is a King Desedarius who had all daughters and could not leave his kingdom to his eldest daughter. My grandmother is named Desadaria Louise Harlin-Christ.
Am also wondering if this King is the same King as Darius of the Middle Eastern region fame!
Any experts on this can contact me at: llchrist@wildblue.net
Thanks in advance for any and all responders.
Linda
Gutemorgen Frau CHRIST, beste LInda, Wie geht's Ihnen?
ARNDT : http://www.geni.com/surnames/ARNDT - 506 Profilen gefunden schon !
WOLFE : http://www.geni.com/surnames/lederer - 3,258 'hits'
ok, I'll try:
Goodmorning Miss, misses? CHRIST, How are you?
I really would appreciate to help you finding ancestors, but I will do that in English, for then other GEni-users can also get some idea's how to handle these kinds of questions, ok? I myself come from Holland, the Netherlands, so I really hope not to make too many mistakes in the language.
We start with the family-name OTTO and the other names you have mentioned here. In geni it's best to start your research for surnames on the appropriate page for that and if you are English-speaking you can find that under the RESEARCH-button under SURNAMES. Then we find this:
ARNDT : http://www.geni.com/surnames/ARNDT - 506 Profilen foudn, wonderful, isn't it ?
CHRIST : http://www.geni.com/surnames/CHRIST - 342 hits to be researched, good, but somewhat a lot.
LAUN : http://www.geni.com/surnames/laun - 29, so here we get a possibility to have more succes in finding other geni-users with this name and still alive. You could mail them with the question whether they do have a problem with working together to find mutual ancestry or descendcy of older profiles in the list.
LEDERER : http://www.geni.com/surnames/lederer -- 831 poeple found, many of them still died a longtime ago perhaps, but maybe there are some alive and enthousiastic geni-users who are allready connected with what they here call the BIG TREE. If so, the chance to find very famous relatives is a nice challence.
OTTO : http://www.geni.com/surnames/otto - 1.588 users in GENI !!! but I think they are not all of GERMAN roots, maybe some of them had European ancestry who emigrated to the STATES at a time it was necessary to get away from religion-fights or werkloosheid.
WOLFE : http://www.geni.com/surnames/lederer - 3,258 'hits'
WILKE : http://www.geni.com/surnames/Wilke - 321 - well, I think you can have a look yourself now if they are still alive or not in this world any longer...?
