For several weeks now, when I have received a notification that a relative has a birthday or anniversary upcoming, I try to click to send them good wishes. At that point, Geni opens the web page that asks me to upgrade my Geni service to a $60 per year fee - I click "No thanks, Continue" and I get to that relative's Geni page (not to the event notification page) and there is a 'send a greeting or gift' choice on that page as well. I click that, and am returned to the Service Upgrade page ... again. It's a closed loop - unable to send the greetings or wishes I have been able to send in the pass on the free membership we've all registered for.
Sorry to see that this has happened -

Quite a few people have written to Geni about this and the original response was that it was probably an unintended bug that accompanied their "improvements." It's been a while, so it appears that fixing this is taking a very long time, or they just aren't going to go back to letting basic users send birthday & other greetings. It would be nice if they would just make it clear if it is just one more thing they are taking away for good.

Private User and Private User - You should now be able to send event greetings with no problems.

Attaching a gift to your greeting is a Geni Plus and Geni Pro feature.

Thanks for letting us know, Natalie. I had tried sending a birthday greeting earlier today and it still wasn't working at that point (still put me in the endless loop). It looks like we have the ability to send greetings now and can schedule them to be delivered at a future date. That's good! The gifts...well, they were nice to have, but I can live without them.
