Do any of you have any experience reading and interpretting will books? I have found a will book in which there is a record of the appraisal and settlement one of my husband's ancestor's estates, but there is no mention *in the index* of a will for him. The appraisal and settlement were two different entries in the index. Does this mean there is likely no will, or is there hope of me finding one yet in this book that is not in the index, or in another book?

Is there a notation he died intestate?

I find this interesting as my great grandfather, I think, was an appraiser. Which means that whenever I do a search on our surname all the estates that he appraised are included in the results because his name was noted at the bottom!

Erica Howton, no it doesn't specifically state that he died intestate.
